How to Get in Touch with Me

0

OK, so I’ve spent countless hours geeking out trying to get my communication methods set up to be as easy and as cheap as possible for my friends and family to get in touch with me, as well as making it cheap for me to call home.  Here’s what I’ve got.

My email is still SPerk15@comcast.net .  I’m thinking this will be my go to for most things.

My Skype name is SPerk15 so if you are on your computer this is probably the best option.

If you want to call me dial the same number you are used to calling.  I now have it set up to forward my 630 number to a skype virtual number that is also a 630 area code.  So this will not in any way cost anyone long distance, you are simply dialing my normal number and it just gets forwarded to skype.  If I have skype open on my phone or computer I’ll answer; if not I have skype voicemail set up. I will spend my entire salary on this.  Of course I will likely gain two hundred pounds but it may be worth it.

Dream Job Video

Dream Job Video

This weekends biggest project was putting together my application video for the Dream Job.  For those that don’t know, the dream job is a position made available by Queensland’s Department of Tourism in Australia.  The “job” is a position called caretaker.  This person has to snorkel, feed fish, and blog about the experience.  They will reside on a tropical island on the Great Barrier Reef for 6 months.  AND, get paid 100,000 dollars.  Insane.  Clearly a lot of people are going to be gunning for this job.

I spent a good part of the weekend with Tim putting the video together.  I filmed most of the footage last week during school, but we had to do some “reshoots” this weekend to get all the material we needed.  Once the video was completely finished, all that was left to do was upload it to islandreefjob.com.  This proved more difficult than I thought.  The video was due Sunday, and all day the site was down…clearly to the mass amounts of people that were uploading at the last minute.  After lunch, the site had finally popped up with the disclaimer: “sorry about the site, please keep trying and be patient”  I literally pushed the refresh button and attempted to resubmit the video for four straight hours. My First Tweet-Up

0

Thursday I went to my first ever tweetup, after a friendly invite from Andy.  I am very new to what I would consider “extreme” social networking, and I figured I would go, as long as I had a just as clueless person with me, so Chris agreed to come as well.

For people who do not know what Twitter is, it is almost stupid simple, but really difficult to understand, or grasp the "why?" in the concept.  Twitter allows people to microblog by posting snippets about what that person is up to that moment.  They are only allowed to post 150 characters at a time, so there are no dissertations or monologues to wade through.  I think the best way to explain it is that it’s like the facebook status part of your facebook page, Steve is…, but that’s all it is.  No massive profile pages with hundreds of photos and poke me invitations, just quick blurbs about what someone is doing.

Why?

I wonder myself sometimes, but it is growing on me.  It is a very opposite model of facebook in a lot of ways.  Facebook, you have friends already, so they become your facebook friends.  Twitter is you search for people that have similar interests as you, and you become twitter friends with them, because their daily posts interest you.  Of my 60 so twitter followers, I have met about 7.  I follow some fitness freaks, Apple fanatics, and some teachers.  Now granted, anyone can just post, "going to get a hamburger" and that isn’t really relevant, but the posts are usually more informational than not.  Because it forces you out of your comfort zone to meet new people, in certain cities, they organize events called “tweetups”.  This will probably never become a masculine word, so I’m expecting a flurry of texts/comments later about my manhood. Moving to a New Site Soon

I have enjoyed blogging immensely, something that I thought would never happen.  It started off as me being bored and wanting to vent some frustrations for the general populace, and has turned into a bonafide addiction.  I also assumed that at this point, three months in, I would be completely devoid of any content whatsoever.  Not the case at all.  I still have several friend profiles I’d like to do, need to reboot the Europe posts, and there seems to be an endless amount of teacher stories to post.  During this three month period, I have realized this is a viable “hobby” for me, if you could call it that.  It’s more like a place to talk about my hobbies, rather than a hobby in itself, but oh well.  This, working out, and being active have replaced video games(slightly) and gluing model planes together.  Though if the need comes up for mass venting and removing myself from the real world, those hobbies may occasionally come back.  Superbowl 06, right after the Bears lost, the first thing I did was start gluing together a M2A1 half track model because I didn’t want to think about sports at all.
